I learned a lot about creative coding and storytelling. As someone who thought coding was a way to fix website errors and computer issues. I thought coding is like a hacking system until I took this class. From this class, I learned creative practice in coding from HTML and CSS. I discover different programs to code in, and how I can use this in my practice. This class also taught me different story building and telling, which is something I don't get a lot of practicing and learning in Pratt, a lot of teachers expect the student to tell a story through the creation of illustration than text and code. I was able to discover and try out indie games which are different for me as I play more popular games with high marketing values.
The game story is based on my dérive walk in a park. The dérive project inspired me to construct a story with the poem. The game started as HTML page story with 1-2 lines of the poem story with visual images from the park. The title of the game is manipulated by the anagram generator. The original name is walk in the park, after using the anagram generator the title is wheat prank ilk. I thought it was interesting bc the park does have plants like wheat, I thought it was fitting. The ending of the game story is on an apple and orange picking game inspired by oblique strategies cards. To create a background story for the twine game (apple and orange picking) I used the HTML pages to set a scene of the walk and the interesting encounters I had during the walk. I also use charNG, crowdsourcing, n+7, and otter.ai for the poem description for the pages. I read my writing to otter.ai and use the transcription for the manipulation in CharNG and N+7. An example is the playground page, the otter ai transcription is Look there is a playground. Lets sit by the swing and enjoy the nice weather. Feel the wind breeze passing by when you swing by the swing set. I put the text into CharNG in 600 characters from a 6-gram model, the outcome is the swing by when you swing by the swing by the swing and enjoy there is a playground. Let's sit by when you swing by when you swing set by when you swing and enjoy the feel the nice weather is a playground. I used N+7 for the lake page, the outcome is The lam is so peaceful and quill. The watercourse is clear with a reflector of the green nave in the parka. Seems perfectionist for a nice nave walk. There are pepper chatting about the duckings and swanks. I found both text is be interesting and amusing because the text gave a different narrative to the story. The twine game description is built from botnik voicebox - predictive writer. The setting is use is food ads which created a description of the fruits and picnics which suits the walking journey in the park and also the fruits used in the game. As for the content of the game I use a variable and array to create a scenario of getting oranges and apples. The oranges are used by a variable of getting oranges in a number count. I used the number 2 as content instead of addition. I was inspired by the oblique strategies card for this idea. Creating a new way of doing things inspired me to different differently. The array is uses different types of apples from apple picking which inspired me for this game. The cards (Do we need holes?, use fewer notes, Revaluation, Create a new way, and Use an old idea) influence the entire process of the game as I was able to make the story and game more abstract and less literal.
The grade I deserve for the final project is B+. I believe I follow the check list requirements, I explain how I incorporate all of the the tools we’ve used and learned from class into the final assignment. Although I am not sure if I used the tools properly in the finals, as I struggle to fit in all of the tools into the assignment. I also struggle with the program twine in the final because the functions of array and variable wasn’t working how I wanted to be. I think my weakest point is the programing and coding for the final. I am more familiar with Glitch HTML and CSS, so I incorporate as the background and setting the game scenario.
Overall I believe I deserve B for this class because I completed the assignments, midterm, and final for this class. Although I didn’t participate in class as much as I should have, I also believe I did the wrong assignment for homework, but I redo the assignment.
